Only three months ago, we at CEAD Group proudly opened the doors to our second location in Delft. This space, which we’ve named the Maritime Application Center (MAC), is set to become a hub for innovation in large-format 3D printing for the maritime sector. And today, we’re thrilled to share some exciting developments that showcase our vision in action.

Transforming boat manufacturing with 3D printing
At CEAD, we’re passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology and sustainability. Our first project at the Maritime Application Center is a testament to this commitment. The prototype boat, printed entirely in-house, showcases the potential of large-format 3D printing and innovative materials to revolutionize the maritime industry.
- Material innovation: the boat is constructed using CEAD®HDPro, a high-performance material developed by CEAD. This material is maintenance-free, impact-resistant, and 100% recyclable. Its durability ensures peace of mind, even in challenging environments.
- Robust design: featuring a double hull structure with internal stiffening ribs, the boat is designed for exceptional strength and stability, making it ideal for rough waters and capable of supporting a powerful outboard engine.
- Eco-friendly manufacturing: by using only CEAD®HDPro without additional coatings, the boat is fully recyclable. If improvements are needed, the prototype can be shredded and reprinted, minimizing waste and maximizing sustainability.
- Efficient poduction: the boat was printed in just 55 hours using a fully automated process, demonstrating the efficiency and scalability of our technology. Additional components, such as the console, seating, and deck, were printed separately and will be assembled using extrusion welding.
The Maritime Application Center (MAC)
The Maritime Application Center (MAC) is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including our 12m Flexbot system. This system is specifically designed for maritime applications and can print hulls as large as 12m x 4m x 2m, enabling the production of larger and more complex designs.
Additionally, the facility houses the newly launched Flexcube 3D printer, which was used to create key components of the prototype boat. Beyond production, we’re establishing a recycling line, complete with a large shredder, to support research into the recycling of printed parts and entire boats. This commitment to sustainability ensures that we can iterate quickly on new designs without generating unnecessary waste.
